    Bass Fishing Trips To Michigan

A surprising location for great bass fishing trips is the metro Detroit area in Michigan. While many travelers would not think to take a bass fishing expedition to Michigan, there are several great areas for fine bass fishing. Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay, and several inland lakes offer some of the best small mouth bass fishing anywhere, especially in an urban area. Fishing takes place from April through December in Michigan, and the seasons provide different fishing opportunities.

Bass fishing trips from early spring through the spawn are usually very productive, with exciting fishing at this time of year. Many fish are visible, and are interested in fishing baits such as super flukes and spinner baits. With these baits, it is a prime time to catch fish, and the spring weather makes it a great destination for enjoyable fishing conditions.

As the fish settle in to their summer routines, fish are generally deeper and by mid summer they are schooled and feeding heavily. Your bass fishing trips at this time of year can yield twenty five to forty fish per day, with fish at almost seven pounds.

During fall, small mouth bass start feeding aggressively and are best found in the shallows. Some of the biggest fish of the year can be caught as the ice over approaches, when fish are looking to feed. There is also a benefit to bass fishing trips at this time of year in Michigan, because there is little boat traffic, and you have most of the fishing areas to yourself. Cold weather gear, however, is necessary for these trips, and may deter fishermen who aren’t accustomed to cold water fishing. The winds and temperatures that accompany the winter season in Michigan can be a frigid experience.

Bass fishing trips, particularly for small mouth bass are available for different bodies of water throughout Michigan. The Grand Traverse Bay, Thunder Bay, Bay De Noc and countless other Great Lakes Ports offer often untouched fishing opportunities. Michigan also has top-notch inland lake for small mouth fishing.

In addition to bass fishing, the Detroit River also offers opportunities for walleye fishing, where fish in massive numbers migrate up the Detroit River from Lake Erie in the spring.

May through mid June is the time period for the white bass run in Lakes Erie and St. Clair. This is a great time for top water bass fishing opportunities, where spawning white bass are making their way up the river. These fish are eager to bite at anything resembling a minnow, making fishing simple during this time.
